Unlike most of AlphaRex competitors who only develop either full LED headlights or halogen output headlights, AlphaRex is trying to fulfill all customer’s need and thus, we provide two options: PRO and NOVA. One of the frequently asked questions is what is the difference between PRO and NOVA, and why the NOVA-Series is so pricey. Let them explain more in detail so that you know exactly what you are paying for and which series is more suitable for you.
PRO-Series
Their PRO-Series headlights are using halogen light bulbs output; therefore, the output is 4300K stock white, and it is not as bright and white comparing to stock LED or stock Xenon headlights.
One thing to keep in mind is that some aftermarket HID and LED bulbs are not DOT compliant, which means it might not be street-legal. When they develop headlights, they need to consider what DOT requires their headlights to meet, including the brightness of the headlights, height of the projection and intensity of the beam, etc.
Therefore, when they design their PRO-Series headlights, they are using halogen output as the standard to meet with DOT requirements. Now, when you apply HID or LED bulbs, it looks a lot brighter and more stylish, but it is no longer compliant with DOT requirement. Therefore, if you want DOT-compliant headlights and it has LED output that is bright and 6000K white, NOVA-Series is going to be your pick.
NOVA-Series
AlphaRex NOVA-Series headlights are Full LED output, and they are using Osram Oslon LED chips with their patented Ice Cube 3D projector lens. The Pros is that NOVA output is very bright and white, the projection cutoff line is super clean.
PRO or NOVA?
PRO-Series Pros:
PRO-Series is a more affordable option, and there are ways to improve the performance of the output. It is common that people apply aftermarket HID kit or LED bulbs to aftermarket projector headlights nowadays, and their headlights are compatible with aftermarket HID kit or LED as well.
PRO-Series Cons:
No doubt that upgrading PRO-Series with HID or LED is very effective and convenient, and the HID or LED is replaceable as well; however you need to keep in mind that a lot of newer vehicles, such as Ram or F150, have very sensitive computers. When the computers detect that the headlights have different current from halogen bulbs, they might throw an error code to your dashboard or reset the headlights and lead to flickering. So, when you apply aftermarket HID or LED, you might need to deal with these technical problems, you also need to try your luck on different brands in order to find the best products that work with your vehicle.
Another thing to keep in mind is that aftermarket HID and LED bulbs are not DOT compliant, which means it might not be street-legal. When they develop headlights, they need to follow a list of numbers that DOT requires their headlights to meet, these numbers include how bright the headlights is, how high the projection is and in what intensity, etc. Therefore, when they design their PRO-Series headlights, they are using halogen output as the standard to meet with DOT requirements. Now, when you apply HID or LED bulbs, it definitely looks a lot brighter and more stylish, but it is no longer compliant with DOT requirements.
NOVA-Series Pros:
They spend a lot of money and effort to make sure their NOVA lights are DOT compliant, so NOVA is street legal. With stock vehicle settings (no lifting or change of bigger wheels), although NOVA headlights have a brighter output, it would not blind the cars in front. The LED chips they are using is very good quality chips, so it is durable and produce a very stable output. They also test fit the headlights before they launch, so they make sure all flickering problem is solved and their customers do not need to deal with it.
NOVA-Series Cons:
The LED chips are not replaceable, so if the LED burns out, you will need to replace the whole set of headlights. To solve this contra, they provide a 2-year warranty on our headlights; furthermore, they use Osram LED chips which are used by a lot of high-end stock factory headlights as well, so the quality is trustworthy.
